Recovery from Sex Addiction

Hello! My name is David Bissette and I am a clinical psychologist in the Washington, DC, metropolitan area. This site explains sex addiction and how to recover from it. There is a wealth of information here for those who suffer from this problem, as well as family and friends. Of course, reading materials such as these--and even doing the exercises and worksheets included here--aren't a substitute for face-to-face professional help or for attendance at 12-step meetings for sex addiction. However, they can do a lot to provide a basic understanding about sex addiction and to help someone get started in recovery and make progress. This includes family members who need to heal from the effects that sex addiction has had on their family.

The material that follows is part of a larger site about my general practice. There's plenty of material about other psychological problems that you may want to explore also. Most people with sex addiction suffer from depression, and it is not unusual to find signs of Attention Deficit Disorder. In addition, childhood abuse is frequent in the backgrounds of those who have any addiction, especially one involving sex. Sex addiction does not develop in a vacuum.
